I am 75 years old and I suffer from osteoarthritis, diabetes, and a heart issue. About six months ago, my wife and I decided to purchase a rollator from a well-known UK company. It was large and sturdy in design and I started using it and yes, it did help my mobility. But it was poorly made and after a few weeks, it was clear that the design could be improved. It was uncomfortable, it rattled and unless the surface was smooth and flat it was really hard work.

After some research, my wife discovered the Veloped range. We were drawn to the solid appearance, the large wheels, and video demonstrations of it being used in difficult terrain. She contacted Trionics via the website and found communication in English was straightforward and helpful. So we ordered a Veloped Sport 14er size M, with some extras including spare wheels and a pump. It arrived after about 10 days. Considering Trionic stated dispatch would be 3-5 days and UPS had to bring it from Sweden, the delivery was excellent and timely. The package was complete and as an added touch the pump and cane holder had been already fitted by Trionic.

Impressive.
I have been using it for three months now. Without exaggeration, it has changed my life. It is so comfortable. The large wheels and pneumatic tyres are silent and stable. The front wheel assembly is brilliant in that it easily overcomes kerbstones and bumps just as described. The braking system is super efficient and does take some getting used to, however. The grip handle height is easily adjustable and although I have yet to adjust the grips I do not see any problem. The seat is stronger than it looks, and the fact that it slides forward when I am walking to give me legroom is a brilliant yet simple design embellishment.

I do have a couple of minor issues. When the pump is stowed, it sometimes slides down the frame and catches my ankle. I could leave it indoors but that will be the day I need it! Sometimes the handlebar adjustment becomes slightly loose, causing the grip on that side to lower slightly which can be a nuisance when leaning on the handle or on rough terrain. It is easy to tighten but I would suggest that the tightening tool is kept in the basket pouch. The waterproof cover is excellent, of sound construction, but I find it awkward and fiddly to fit outside in the rain. Perhaps if I were younger and fitter…

I have tested the Veloped on different terrain and it makes short work of everything I have tried. Gravel pathways, which are supposed to be “wheelchair friendly* (Veloped is not a wheelchair of course), are not a problem with such large wheels. Smooth and rough grass and fields are fun to walk through. I have yet to try cobbles but I know where I can find some to test. Shingle pathways and soft sand are no obstacles. I have walked in the woods and the riverbank – photos of the terrain are attached! So, I go out for my daily walk with my camera equipment in the basket to the local quayside, sit on my Veloped, and take pictures of the fishing boats.

The Veloped is considered by some to be expensive. It is not cheap but it meets the test of quality. UK taxpayers with disabilities (including me) can claim VAT relief, which is substantial. I have been stopped by people in the street and in the woods who are impressed and, I think, a bit jealous! But to conclude, it is a life changer and I highly recommend it.
